About UAS4RS 2016

We invite all doers, dabblers, and would-be dabblers to join us for the inaugural UAS4RS 2016 (Unmanned Aircraft Systems for Remote Sensing) Conference to be held at the University of Queensland, Brisbane 17-18 February 2016. The aim of UAS4RS 2016 is to bring together the UAS community in Australia, and to present and discuss UAS technology for remote sensing applications and information extraction.

In recent years, there has been a proliferation in the use of small UAS and advanced miniature sensors to map and monitor our environments at unprecedented detail. The development of 3D mapping based on structure-from-motion, new multispectral and hyperspectral sensors, thermal sensing, and LiDAR instruments have given the remote sensing community exciting opportunities to acquire their own data, and control every aspect from sensor integration to answering novel applied science questions. With these opportunities also come many challenges in sensor calibration, georeferencing and sensor fusion, processing workflows, data analysis, calibration/validation, field operations, regulations, derivation of land-cover information and biophysical parameters, and feature extraction.

This conference is for you if:

  • You’re a ‘doer’: you already use UAS as part of your remote sensing workflow and would like to share your experiences and challenges;
  • You’re a ‘dabbler’: you’ve done some testing and think this technology might be the way forward for you; and
  • You’re a ‘would-be dabbler’: you’ve heard the hype and you’re curious to know more.

We are designing an interactive and engaging program and we’d like you to be part of it! We’ll be actively linking you with UAs researchers, developers, systems and service providers, as well as end-users. There will be presentations, posters, exhibitions, live demonstrations, and discussions to exchange ideas on the use of UAS for remote sensing applications.

So whether you have a story to share, equipment to demonstrate, or would simply like to come along and learn more about this exciting technology, we welcome you to UAS4RS 2016!

The due date for abstract submission is Friday 8 January 2016
